Mission-Minded and Missional Churches

  • The mission-minded church emphasizes sending and supporting; the missional church emphasizes being and doing.
  • The mission-minded church is representative; the missional church is participative.
  • The mission-minded church perceives mission as one expression of its ministry; the missional church perceives mission as the essence of its existence.

The Hispanic Jesus Film Conference - Harvest 2005
UPDATE REPORT

"A major evangelistic thrust has been launched through the Jesus film evangelism conference in 17 major cities. Rev. Roberto Hodgson and Rev. Leonel De Leon have prayed and worked to develop four workshops to cast the vision, train, inspire and mobilize the church members for evangelism in those cities.

Roberto Hodgson reports that the conference has been well received by pastors and lay people. So far, the conference has been presented in 10 cities with a representation of 100 congregations and 492 participants. When the conference was presented in Dallas, Rev. Leonel deLeon shared with the group that a distributor on the internet was offering a special promotion price for the purchase of three cases or more of the Jesus film in DVD. Rev. Giovanni Monterroso, Latino coordinator of the Dallas district, asked the pastors if they wanted to partner in buying at least three cases to take advantage of the sale promotion. They ended up ordering seven cases for a total of 210 DVDs. Praise the Lord! We can only imagine the potential of 210 DVDs in the hands of those local churches who will use the DVDs as an evangelistic tool. We are praying that God will create an evangelistic movement among the Hispanic Congregations in USA/Canada. Please pray that God will bless this evangelistic endeavor in obedience to the Great Commission.

Sudanese Leadership Conference
There is a movement afloat. It is abroad, in the United States and in Canada. This movement is energized by the Holy Spirit awakening the peoples of Sudan to a Christian belief and a holiness lifestyle. Pastor Michael Gatkek, pastor of the Southern Sudan Christian Mission Church of the Nazarene, located in South Portland Maine, has a vision and a passion to mobilize the many thousands of Christian Sudanese who are living in the US and Canada to come together as a Christian community under the Nazarene Holiness denomination.

There are a number of Christian Sudanese leaders, from many tribes, who have expressed a call to pastor their growing communities. They are not affiliated with any denomination, yet feel a call to holiness. Under the example of Pastor Michael, they have asked to become a part of the Nazarene church and have asked the Church of the Nazarene to assist in this calling. Some leaders have felt the call to return to Sudan to preach the gospel to their homeland villages. The work of the Church of the Nazarene in Southern Sudan has been explosive and a partnership is being developed to equip these leaders.
